MAKE A CHILD SMILE. MAKE THE EARTH A BETTER PLACE
Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives. More than an NGO, Operation Smile is a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
Since 1982, the program is involving more than 1,700 volunteers between doctors and nurses who provided care to over 200.000 children and adults worlwide, and currently has a presence in over 60 countries.
Because "No person in any community should not live in pain and isolation caused by a correctable facial deformity" in Madagascar, the Hotel Carlton gives it support in partnership with the Lions Club Analamanga to the Operation Smile South Africa (OSSA). Surgical interventions take place annually at the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona Hospital. To date, OSSA have conducted five free surgical missions in Madagascar.
Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life. Together, we recreate the smile upon these children faces.
